FAQ

General

Q:
Where is Wyndy available?
A:
Wyndy is now available in the following cities: Alabama
  • Birmingham
  • Tuscaloosa
  • Mobile

Tennessee
  • Nashville
  • Memphis
  • Chattanooga

Virginia
  • Charlottesville

The app is open to parents in and around these cities and to local students from Wyndy-approved campuses. We plan to expand to additional cities and campuses soon.

Q:
Will the Wyndy app work on my mobile device?
A:
Yes! Wyndy will be available both as an IOS app and an Android app, so you can use Wyndy no matter what kind of device you use.
Q:
Why is the app called Wyndy?
A:
The name Wyndy is a nod to Wendy Darling, the character in Peter Pan who cares for the Lost Boys.
Q:
Who are the founders of Wyndy?
A:
Ginger and Tommy Mayfield are the founders of Wyndy and the parents of two young daughters. They met while attending Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and have been married for 10 years. After living in Charlottesville while Tommy attended law school at the University of Virginia, they moved to Tommy's hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. Tommy practiced law for 7 years before working as Director of Business Development & General Counsel at a technology firm. College babysitters are their favorite babysitters to use for their own children, and Wyndy was born out of the desire to create a better way for families to connect with local college students.
Q:
How does Wyndy differ from other babysitting apps and websites?
A:
Wyndy is a mobile application, not a website. The entire process of finding, booking, and paying babysitters is done within the platform--right from your mobile phone. All sitters are full-time undergraduate or graduate students from Wyndy-approved campuses. All of our sitters undergo a thorough application process and must pass a background check before being granted access to the platform.
Q:
How do I report a concern to Wyndy?
A:
After every job, you can rate a sitter or job. It’s our goal to make every job a great experience, and we monitor these ratings very closely. We also welcome questions and feedback from our users to help us make sure any concerns are quickly addressed. You can contact us at (205) 378-9484 or [email protected]
Q:
How can I get Wyndy to my school or city?
A:
Parents, register on the app or website, and we’ll send you an email when we launch in your city. Sitters, if you’re interested in helping us bring Wyndy to your campus, email us at [email protected] The more interest we get from parents and sitters, the sooner we will bring Wyndy your way.

Parents

Q:
Who are the Wyndys?
A:
Wyndys are undergraduate or graduate students who love kids and are looking for part-time, flexible work while they’re in school. Wyndy is open to students from Wyndy-approved campuses in the greater Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Nashville areas. All potential sitters must apply. As part of the application process, we verify the sitter’s enrollment and require them to submit a video answering several questions. Once we approve each sitter through our thorough internal application process, we also perform a background check on each sitter before they are fully accepted onto the platform.
Q:
Who performs the background checks on Wyndys and what does the background check entail?
A:

As part of the application, all potential Wyndys must pass a basic background check, which is performed by a third party company, Checkr (www.checkr.com). Checkr validates the Wyndy’s identity using their Social Security Number. The sitter’s name and SSN are then checked against multiple databases.

Q:
How do I find and book a Wyndy?
A:

There are two convenient ways to locate and book Wyndys. You can either post the job to the job board or offer a job directly to your list of favorite Wyndys.

Posting to the Job Board

Once you have created a job, you can post it to the job board. Wyndys will have access to the job board and can express interest in your job. You can see all of the Wyndys who have expressed interest in your job from the “Posted Jobs” tab off your Home Screen. When you are ready to book a Wyndy, you will select as few or as many of the Wyndys who have expressed interest, order them by preference, set a response time, and hit go. The app will then send a notification directly to your first preferred sitter asking her if she would like the job. If the first Wyndy accepts, the job is booked. If the first Wyndy declines or fails to respond in the allotted response time, the app will then send a notification directly to your second-preferred sitter and will continue this process until the job is booked or all of the interested Wyndys you selected have been contacted.

Offering Jobs to “My Wyndys”

On your Home Screen, you’ll have the option to either create a job or browse Wyndys. If you choose to browse, you can view all of the Wyndy profiles and filter by numerous criteria (including school, major, experience, and more). When you locate Wyndys you like, you can simply click on the star in their profiles to save them to your “My Wyndys” list. When you create a job, you can offer it directly to “My Wyndys” instead of posting it to the job board. You can select as few or as many “My Wyndys” as you like, order them by preference, set a response time, and hit go. The app will then send a notification directly to your first preferred sitter. If the first Wyndy accepts, the job is booked. If the first Wyndy declines or fails to respond in the allotted response time, the app will then send a notification directly to your second-preferred sitter and will continue this process until the job is booked or all of the interested Wyndys you selected have been contacted.

Parent Connections

You can also connect with your parent friends on Wyndy to see the Wyndys they’ve used and the ratings they’ve given to Wyndys. Connecting with friends on Wyndy is a great way to find additional sitters to add to your list of “My Wyndys”.

Q:
When do sitters get my address and contact information?
A:
Sitters viewing your job offer will see your general neighborhood, but they will not see your actual address until after a job has been booked. After a job is booked, the sitter can view the job in their “Booked Jobs” and see the address associated with the job and can also contact you directly to confirm the job details.
Q:
Can I connect with other parents on Wyndy? Why should I?
A:
Yes. When you connect with friends, you can see the Wyndys they have used and the ratings they have given to Wyndys. Connecting with friends on Wyndy is a great way to find additional sitters to add to your list of “My Wyndys”.
Q:
Do I have to enter my payment information before booking a Wyndy?
A:
Yes. Wyndy requires you to have a valid card on file in order to create a job. You will not be charged until a Wyndy completes a job for you.
Q:
What does it cost to use Wyndy?
A:
Wyndy is free to download and won’t cost anything until you use a Wyndy babysitter. You choose the hourly rate you want to pay for each job. Wyndy charges a small service fee based on the hourly rate you set, the length of the job, and any bonus you choose to pay your Wyndy. For most jobs, the fee ranges from $2 to $5.
Q:
How do I pay a Wyndy?
A:
When you sign up and create your profile, you will put in your payment information. At the end of each job, you will securely pay your Wyndy directly through the app.
Q:
How much should I pay a Wyndy?
A:
Wyndy has a minimum rate of $12 an hour for all jobs, but a greater hourly rate will make your job more appealing to Wyndys, especially if you are looking for a sitter on short notice. You may also want to consider increasing your hourly rate based on the number of children or additional responsibilities your job includes--like homework help, carpooling, and other specific tasks.
Q:
Can I pay a babysitter I meet through Wyndy with a cash or check?
A:
Booking or paying off the app is prohibited by our terms of use and will result in you and the Wyndy being suspended from the platform.
Q:
Is it necessary to tip a Wyndy?
A:
While tips are always appreciated, they are never expected. If you feel that your Wyndy has gone above and beyond and would like to tip him or her, you can easily add a bonus at the end of the job from your payment screen.
Q:
How far in advance can I book a Wyndy?
A:
There is technically no limit on how far in advance you can create a job. However, we recommend posting jobs no longer than a month in advance for a higher likelihood of booking a sitter. For the best chance of booking a sitter, we recommend a lead time of 2 days to 2 weeks.
Q:
How quickly can I book a Wyndy?
A:
There is no lead time requirement for posting an available job or offering it to Wyndys on your “My Wyndys” list. You can request a sitter for a job that begins a few hours from the time of posting, or even create an immediate request. For the best chance of booking a sitter, we recommend a lead time of 2 days to 2 weeks. For a higher likelihood of booking a sitter on short notice, we recommend increasing your hourly rate to get more sitters interested.
Q:
Can I post a repeating job?
A:
Yes. When you create a job for a particular day of the week, you can choose to have the job repeat weekly for as many weeks as you choose. If you create a job for Monday from 3-5pm and make the job repeat for 4 weeks, the app will automatically generate 4 jobs. You can either post the jobs to the job board and book a different sitter for each job or offer all 4 jobs to one or more of the Wyndys on your “My Wyndys” list.
Q:
What if I need a Wyndy for less than an hour?
A:
Jobs are more likely to get booked if they are at least two hours in length or if you pay a higher hourly rate. For jobs an hour or less in length, we recommend offering $18-20 to make it worth the Wyndy’s time.
Q:
Am I guaranteed to always find a Wyndy for my job?
A:
We do our best to balance the number of parents and sitters on the platform to ensure the highest rate of booked and completed jobs, but it is possible you won’t find a Wyndy based on the specific details and requirements of your job. Jobs posted at a higher hourly rate and with a lead time of 2 days to 2 weeks have the highest likelihood of being filled. Our pool of babysitters are full-time college students, so specific periods during the year are busier than others.
Q:
Can I meet a Wyndy before I hire him or her?
A:
If you would like the opportunity to get to know your Wyndy before the job, we encourage you to book the job with a half hour lead time. This will give you and your family an opportunity to meet and connect with the Wyndy before you leave. Remember: You can put as many helpful details into the job request itself and/or your House Rules so that the Wyndy will be well prepared to take care of your children before they even arrive at your house.
Q:
Can I review a Wyndy?
A:
Yes. After a Wyndy completes a job, you will receive an email receipt which gives you an opportunity to anonymously review the sitter on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. It’s our goal is to make every job a great experience, and we monitor these ratings very closely. Other parents you are connected with on Wyndy will be able to see the ratings you’ve given to Wyndys you’ve used. Additionally, after a Wyndy has completed four jobs, the Wyndy will receive a cumulative rating that all parents can see when viewing the Wyndy’s profile.
Q:
What do the ratings on Wyndy mean?
A:

Here’s a breakdown of what each star indicates:

1 star - Sally was terrible
2 stars - Sally was not good
3 stars - Sally was just ok
4 stars - Sally was good
5 stars - Sally was magical

We’ve received a lot of questions about the difference between a 4 and 5 star Wyndy. A four on our Wyndy scale indicates "good" and a five on our Wyndy scale indicates "magical.”

A Wyndy does not receive a public rating on Wyndy until they have completed and been rated for 4 jobs. We’ve found that parents have vastly different expectations and opinions about babysitters, and we want to gain an average rating before we make a rating public out of fairness to the Wyndys.

Some parents on Wyndy are reluctant to ever give out a five and some are very willing to. Please keep in mind that the longer a Wyndy works on the app, the harder it is to maintain a 5-star rating due to the subjectivity of ratings and the differences among families and what they desire in a Wyndy.

**We want to help great Wyndys get noticed by more families and get more job offers, so please do your Wyndys a favor and remember to rate them on your email receipt after the job.

Q:
Can a Wyndy review the jobs they do for me?
A:
Wyndys will have the opportunity to rate each job on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, but the ratings will not be made public. These ratings will be used only for internal purposes.
Q:
Can I block a Wyndy?
A:
Yes. By clicking the “Block” button on a Wyndy’s profile, you will no longer see that Wyndy’s profile when browsing and they will no longer be able to see jobs that you post to the job board.

Sitters

Q:
What does the Wyndy application process involve?
A:
Applying to be a Wyndy is easy. You simply complete the online application and we will notify you via email if you are accepted. Wyndys must pass a basic background check prior to gaining access to the Wyndy platform.
Q:
How long does it take to become a Wyndy from the time I apply?
A:
The application process can be completed very quickly. Assuming you complete all the steps in the application process without delay, you can be a full-fledged Wyndy within 24-48 hours (and in many cases just a few hours) after beginning your application.

Here are the steps in the application process:

1. Sign up - Go to www.wyndy.com/signup/sitters, hit “apply,” complete the Account Information, then hit “submit.”

2. Verify your email - After you hit “submit," you will need to confirm your .edu email address by clicking the link in the verification email we send you. If you do not receive this email within 2 hours of hitting “submit” on the Account Information screen, check your spam folder. If you're still having trouble, email [email protected]

3. Complete your application - Complete the remaining portion of the application, including your short video submission. Don't stress about the video. We will never post it anywhere public.

4. Complete your background check - If you are approved based on your initial application, you will receive an email with a link to the background check process, which you must complete before you can gain access to the Wyndy platform. If you do not receive this email within 24 hours of submitting your initial application, check your spam folder. If you're still having trouble, email [email protected]

5. Get ready to start work as a Wyndy! - Assuming you pass your background check, you will receive an email officially welcoming you to the Wyndy family. Get ready to make extra cash and show families that you are more than just a babysitter—you are a Wyndy.

Q:
What information is reviewed as part of the background check?
A:

All potential Wyndys must pass a basic background check, which is performed by a third party company, Checkr (www.checkr.com). Checkr validates your identity using your Social Security Number. Your name and SSN are then checked against multiple databases.

Q:
Do I have to pay for the background check as part of the application process?
A:
We don’t require applicants to pay for their background checks during the application process. Instead, the cost of your background check ($15) will be deducted from the amount you make on your first job on the platform.
Q:
Is my social security number and other personal information I provide as part of my background check secure?
A:
You can rest assured that your SSN and other personal information will be fully protected. We have partnered with Checkr, the company that runs background checks for Uber, Shipt, and many other on-demand companies. They use state-of-the-art technology to ensure that all of the information that you provide (including SSN) is always encrypted and kept secure. You can read more about Checkr’s security here: https://checkr.com/product/security/
Q:
Who are the parents and families on Wyndy?
A:
Each parent who registers for Wyndy must create an account and provide their name, email address, phone number, and other personal information. They must also have a valid credit or debit card on file before booking a sitter. Once you accept a job, you can view the parent’s home address from your “Booked Jobs” and can contact the parent by clicking “Contact”. We recommend always looking up the location and contacting the parent through a call, Facetime call, or text to establish a personal connection before the day of the job.
Q:
How do I find and book jobs?
A:

When you open the app, you can access the job board, which will show all of the available jobs in a calendar view. You can filter jobs by date, time, rate, distance to job, number and gender of children, and more. You can notify parent users if you are interested in their job, and they can offer you the job. If a parent offers you a job, you will receive an in-app notification and an email with the offer. Each notification will contain a response time which the parents will set. If you do not respond to the job offer within the allotted response time, the job will be offered to another Wyndy.

Parents also have the ability to browse Wyndy profiles, create a “My Wyndys” list, and offer jobs directly to those Wyndys. If you receive a job offer from a parent for a job that is not on the job board, it means that a parent has added you to their “My Wyndys” list. Parents can also connect with other parents on Wyndy to see the Wyndys their friends have used and the ratings their friends have given them. By doing a good job for one parent, you will immediately be recommended to all of the parent’s friends on Wyndy, which should help you receive more job offers in the future.

Q:
What do I do if I’m not getting booked for jobs?
A:

We do our best to balance the correct ratio of parents to sitters on Wyndy, but it’s not uncommon for a Wyndy to express interest in several jobs before getting booked. If you’re having trouble booking jobs, here are our best tips:

  1. Be sure to completely fill out your Wyndy profile with as much information as you can.
  2. Choose a clear profile image that just features you.
  3. Keep a close eye on the job board and try to express interest as soon as you see a job you’d like. Keep in mind that last-minute jobs are being posted often, especially on the weekends, and those jobs are typically filled within one hour of being posted. Weekend jobs are less competitive than jobs posted during the week, so the easiest way to get booked and meet a family is by working a job for them on the weekend. Once you work a job for one parent and do a great job, the app will promote you to that parent’s connections, which will help you book future jobs.

After you get booked and rated 4 times, your rating will show up when parents view your profile, so the app should naturally do the work for great Wyndys to help them get noticed even more. Sometimes booking the first few jobs is the hardest part! We’re seeing more parents joining and more jobs being posted every day, so keep expressing interest and hopefully you will get booked soon!

Q:
When do I get the parent’s address and contact information?
A:
When you view a job on the job board or a job offer you receive directly from a parent, you will see the neighborhood the parent listed when creating his/her profile, but will not see the parent’s actual address until after a job has been booked. After a job is booked, you can view the job in your “Booked Jobs” and see the address associated with the job and can also click on “Contact” to contact the parent directly.
Q:
Can I contact the parent before the job?
A:
Once you accept a job, you can view the parent’s address by viewing the job in your “Booked Jobs” and can contact the parent by clicking “Contact”. We recommend always looking up the location and contacting the parent through a call, text, or Facetime to establish a personal connection before the day of the job.
Q:
When do I start the timer and when do I stop it?
A:
When you arrive at a house, click on the job in your “Booked Jobs” and start the timer. When the parents return home, stop it. The parents will be able to click on “pay” from their “Booked Jobs” , see the total amount owed, add a bonus if they want, and then can securely pay right inside the app.
Q:
How and when do I get paid?
A:

When you set up your Wyndy profile, you will provide either your Venmo account information or your bank account information. After a parent pays through the app, the funds are sent to your account. You should receive the funds within 1-3 business days of completing a job.

**Note: Payment for jobs will not show up immediately in Venmo or in your bank account. It will take 1-3 business days for the funds to appear in your Venmo or bank account. Unless you prefer to keep funds in your Venmo account, we recommend linking your bank account

Q:
Can I accept cash or a check for babysitting services from a family I meet through Wyndy?
A:

Booking or paying off the app is prohibited by our terms of use and will result in you and the parent being suspended from the platform.

Q:
How do I get paid if I perform more than one job in a day?
A:
You will only receive payment for one job per day. For instance, if you perform two jobs on a Monday, you will get paid for the first job by Thursday and the second job most likely on Friday.
Q:
What do I do if I don’t receive payment within 5 business days?
A:
If you don’t receive payment within five business days of completing a job, email [email protected]
Q:
Can parents review me?
A:
Parents will be able to rate you on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. After you’ve completed four jobs as a Wyndy, you will receive a cumulative rating that all parents can see when viewing your profile. In addition, parents can connect with other parents on Wyndy to see the Wyndys their friends have used and the ratings their friends have given them. We want all of our Wyndys to be magical. Accepted Wyndys will be granted access to tips we’ve gathered from families about how to make them love you, so you can get better ratings, more jobs, and bonuses.
Q:
Can I review jobs I complete?
A:
Sitters can rate each job they perform on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, but the ratings will not be made public. These ratings will be used only for internal purposes. We monitor these ratings closely and make sure any concerns are quickly addressed.
Q:
Can a parent request me for a recurring job?
A:
Yes. When a parent create a job for a particular day of the week, the parent can choose to have the job repeat weekly for as many weeks as the parents chooses. If a parent creates a job for Monday from 3-5pm and makes the job repeat for 4 weeks, the app will automatically generate 4 jobs. The parent can either post the jobs to the job board and book a different sitter for each job or offer all 4 jobs to directly to one or more of the Wyndys on their “My Wyndys” list.
