Recent Nanny Jobs in Elyria

Nanny needed for a family residing in Westlake, OH.
Job Description
We are seeking a nurturing and experienced nanny to provide care and developmental support for a wonderful little girl. At 19 months, she is an affectionate, resilient child with unique needs that require thoughtful attention, patience, and specialized knowledge.

She is not yet crawling or walking, but is beginning to pull herself up to stand. She has bilateral hearing loss and is currently learning American Sign Language (ASL). She will have cochlear implants this fall. While she doesn’t yet have words, she makes a variety of sounds to communicate.

She also has EPC (epilepsy with persistent tremors) that affect her tongue, hands, and larger muscle groups. The tremors persist throughout the day but stop when she sleeps. Unfortunately, sleep can be a challenge, as fatigue is one of her main triggers, along with constipation. She finds it difficult to fall asleep, but a dark room, gentle rocking, and a quiet environment help her settle down.

We are looking for someone who can provide the following:

Responsibilities:
- Offer patient, hands-on care that supports her developmental progress.
- Assist in learning and reinforcing ASL to help her communication, working closely with her cochlear implant process.
- Be mindful of her motor tremors and help her with activities that engage her muscles safely.
- Provide comfort and care during difficult sleep times, helping to soothe her in ways that meet her unique needs.
- Stay vigilant of her fatigue and constipation triggers to minimize discomfort and promote her well-being.
- Be prepared to adapt care based on her developmental and health changes.

Ideal Candidate:
- Experience working with children with developmental delays or special needs.
- Knowledge of ASL or a willingness to learn quickly.
- Compassionate and calm, especially in moments of heightened needs.
- Physically capable of assisting child in her sleep routine, which includes rocking and holding her even as she gets taller.
- Experience with children with epilepsy is a plus, but not required.

This family deeply values someone who is knowledgeable, compassionate, and passionate about working with special needs children. The current nanny, though caring, does not have the specialized background that their daughter requires, especially on the days her mother is away. Therefore, we’re seeking someone with a deeper understanding of special needs care.

Compensation: $25-$30/hour depending on experience
