About Kristi

Kristi Brubaker is a specialized childcare provider who works with children with disabilities to support development through multiple therapies in the natural/home setting. Kristi has supported families, in a variety of capacities, for over 15 years. A few disabilities she has experience with include, Autism, Epilepsy, Genetic Disorders, Developmental Delays, Feeding Issues, Hearing Loss and Communication Disorders. In the past 3 years she has assisted a family of two with a child with special needs to support him in his everyday needs. She successfully taught over 200 signs and helped implement the use of an Augmentative and Alternative Communication device (AAC). Furthermore, her keen organizational skills promoted effective management of the child’s day-to-day therapies, which included multiple third-party therapists and assisted in meeting her therapeutic goals. Her excellent communication skills, and reliability helps facilitate a calm and peaceful environment. Kristi believes that providing play-based therapy helps your child achieve developmental milestones and maximize their functional potential. She implements strategies to target receptive and expressive communication skills through the building of play. She focuses on increasing functional communication skills in a way that helps a child be a successful communicator in all environments. Her goal is to provide personalized care with dedication and passion to helping each child succeed in a loving manner. Kristi graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelors in Speech and Hearing Science in 2008. She was a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant from 2009-2013. She was born and raised in Northern NY, and in just recently moved to Durham from Denver CO with her husband. She loves to cook for family and friends and enjoys relaxing on her front porch with a good book!
