About Jessica

Hi there, my name is Jess! I am an Ivy League graduate who has a passion for working with children. I’m new to Wyndy, but not new to childcare! I grew up with two much younger siblings and spent my formative teenage years babysitting. In college, I worked summers for the continued adult education program on campus where I provided group childcare for parents who took evening classes. After college, I worked at a school where I managed a sensory room for kids with special education needs. It was my job to use sensory play to help kids calm down when they experienced overwhelming, stressful, or upsetting situations at school. I also worked as a part time tutor for Kaplan! More recently, I’ve worked in nonprofit program management, for example with the Washington State Department of Early Learning (to improve early childhood development with childcare centers) and with the Washington State Department of Health (to implement respiratory health testing for K-12 students and to coordinate childhood vaccine clinics). However, I now find myself wanting to get away from Zoom calls and desk work and get back to what I love most — hanging out with kids! I’ve taken care of kids of all ages, from toddlers to teens. I have a particular passion for helping kids learn, whether it’s with homework help, a scavenger hunt in nature, or teaching them a new baking recipe. I’m very activity-oriented and love to watch kids explore the world and experience new things — for me, that’s the joy of working with children! When I babysit or nanny, I like to come with ideas of things to do with the kiddos, but also like to follow their lead and participate in the passions they have. Sometimes kids have big emotions! When I am taking care of a child who gets upset, I get down on their level, listen and validate their feelings, and work patiently with the child to help them calm down. In my free time, I’m an avid soccer player and hiker. But I also love a cozy indoor puzzle day with my cats. I am a total animal lover and volunteer with the Whatcom Humane Society, so I’d be happy to support you with any animal care needs while I’m hanging out with the kids. I would describe myself as communicative, funny, responsible, and organized. As they say, it takes a village to raise a kid, and I’d love to be a part of yours!
